Travel and Logistics

Flight Information

Many airlines  fly into Anchorage International Airport. Check with your travel agent, google flights, and other travel websites. We often work with Travel Station. They are familiar with our lodge schedule, and would be happy to help you set up your trip. Their telephone number is 1.800.522.8747.

The flight from Anchorage to Dillingham is with a private charter company.  We are using Alaska Central Express (ACE), 1-907-334-5111.   We have reserved space for  all our Royal Coachman clients.    We have done this to improve the client experience.  For the life of the lodge we had used commercial airlines, but our guests in recent years would not get their luggage 10% of the time.

The Dillingham charter will leave Anchorage on Sunday around 11 am, and arrive in Dillingham at 12:30 pm.

Guests, please get to ACE one hour before the flight departs. Please note that this gate is outside of security.   So there is no security to go through.

There location has now changed from previous years it is NOW LOCATED IN THE NORTH TERMINAL;  walk into the North Terminal and you should see a podium for ACE and there is no security.   Best number to call if you have any issues finding it on the day of your departure please call Glenda at 907-215-1312 or Deena at 907-229-0662.

If you plan on walking from the main terminal (south terminal)  there is no moving walkway,   baggage carts should be available on both sides, it will take about 5-10 minutes to do the walk.  The walkway is on the north end of baggage claim.  There is a free shuttle to north terminal every 15-20 minutes out by where you meet the taxis, outside of baggage claim.

If you are coming from your hotel please make sure that the taxi driver or shuttle driver can drop you off at the North terminal.

This new location will probably add 10-20 minutes to your transfer if you have connecting flights.

On the return this charter will leave Dillingham on Sunday at 1:00 pm and arrive in Anchorage at roughly 2:30 pm.  Please note that weather delays are quite common on these charters.  We recommend that you do not book a flight before 5:30 pm out of Anchorage.

On your return to Anchorage,  that there should be a shuttle phone that you can call the airport shuttle to come get you.

All clients will have an added charge for this charter.   This charter is designed to be break even, to slight loss for the lodge.   If you are flying private or want to arrive on a different flight, then notify us.   Refunds on the charter costs are usually not possible.    Please call if you have questions.

More About the Royal Coachman Lodge

The lodge and fishing program have been designed to be one of the best all around programs in Alaska. We cater to a maximum of 10-12 anglers per week, with a camp staff of 12 to 14 people. The small number of guests and large staff ensures that you will receive exceptional personal service and attention.

The main lodge building houses the kitchen, dining room, massage room (please inquire about availability), and one guest room. We have finely furnished guest cabins, with one or two bedrooms and private baths. Each cabin or room has modern bath facilities, independent heat, excellent beds, and 110 electricity provided by diesel generator.  Electricity is turned off late at night to the early morning.   Single rooms are available. You are welcome to wait until your arrival at the lodge to see if you receive a single. If you would like to guarantee that a single is available, there is a $400 single room supplement.

Each morning the aircraft depart from the docks about one hour after breakfast. We return to the lodge each evening around 6 pm. For those who just can’t get enough of a good thing, there is great evening fishing in front of the lodge, and with the Alaskan midnight sun, you can fish all night.

The Royal Coachman Lodge prides itself on the quality and freshness of its cuisine. Freshly baked bread, rolls, or pastries are served with each meal. Fresh fruit and vegetables are always available. Dinner menus vary and include entrees such as pork tenderloin, New York steak, roast duck, and fresh caught salmon. We are happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions or requests.

Alcohol Beverages

We are not allowed to sell alcohol, and alcohol is not included in the package. Alcoholic beverages are not sold at the lodge.  If you would like to place an order to have at the lodge when you arrive, we can help you arrange it. If you do not order alcohol, there will be no alcohol available for your group. We must receive your order at least 8 weeks prior to your stay. You will need to fill out the client information form with your alcohol order, please ask for a link to the form if you do not have one.  The customer information form link is usually on our final invoice email.

We use a very reputable liquor store in Anchorage, AK that has a huge inventory. We ask that you request your  favorite brands or give a price range for wine, beer and liquor.  Please include your arrival day, quantity, type, brand and price range on the guest form. For beer, we do prefer to have cans instead of bottles for recycling and waste management. For example:

Your name
Arrival date at Royal Coachman Lodge
1.5 L Cabernet or 3L Bota Box Cabernet
price range $20 -$30.

Communications

The camp has satellite phones in both airplanes and telephone and  internet in the lodge.  The internet is good enough for emails and that is about it.   There is no cell phone service at the lodge or in Dillingham, and there is no television at the lodge.

Emergency Contact and Facilities

There is a clinic for minor illnesses and injuries in Dillingham (2 hours by float plane). The closest major hospital is Anchorage (1.5 hours away from Dillingham by commercial plane). Our plane can get to Dillingham in 45 minutes from our lodge, but flight time and availability of the plane are not guaranteed. Please assess your medical problems before booking.   This means you might be 4-5 hours away from a major hospital at a minimum.

Please keep your essential medications with you at all times, not in your luggage. Although extremely rare, there are times where luggage can get stuck, and  might not return to the lodge due to weather or other extraordinary situations.

We highly recommend travel insurance whenever you travel to Alaska. If you purchase travel insurance within 21 days of your initial deposit it covers pre-existing medical conditions. There is always the possibility of an arrival or departure delay and/or cancellation due to weather. Please give us a call if you have any questions about travel insurance. Please visit Global Rescue or TravelEx  for travel/medical evacuation insurance.

Gratuities:

We recommend a gratuity of 10%- 15% of the non group discounted package price.    $1,220-$1,830 (in 2024).  Please feel free to tip more or less depending on the quality of service you have received.  We prefer cash, but you can also use a credit card, or check, at the lodge.  Gratuities are evenly distributed amongst the staff, in order to preserve the team atmosphere.
